Looking for kid friendly resources of accurate & trustworthy information, SAFE image searches and more in a wide variety of subjects and sources including primary sources, periodicals, articles, encyclopedias, articles and reference books? Try one of WTPL’s ONLINE library databases…purchased just with WTPL Kids’ in mind!
What is a database? Should I use a library database or a website…what’s the difference? Why is searching a library database better for accurate informationthan using Google or other Internet searches? That’s easy! ANYONE can put ANYTHING up on the web. Just because a search engine picks it up does not mean that the information is accurate. But a library database, on the other hand, is a resource that the library purchases. So the information that you find there is reliable just like the information in a book or a periodical. In fact, the information that you find on a database IS a book, article, or periodical and NOT a website (even though you are reading it on the computer). This information also “counts” as a book, article, or periodical, not a website, when you are citing your sources for a school project! Look below for some Kid-Friendly library databases!
